Ok, ok, you asked, I answered. Here are the answers to your most asked questions!
1. Who taught you how to cook?
My mom of course – and she is still teaching me! I take the inspiration from my mom, she seems to know how cook anything and everything. I sort of understand, since she has been cooking for my dad for the last 35 years! She shares all of her kitchen-tested recipes with me, love you mom!!!
2. Do you prefer cooking or baking?
Cooking all the way. I feel that with cooking I can be more creative and change up the ingredients. Although I love to eat dessert, I have a hard time making it, I guess I am not patient when it comes to measuring, as you know with baking the recipes have to be precise or it won’t turn out right.
3. What is your favorite meal to cook for company?
Hmm, I’d say Russian dishes like the Russian Potato Salad (Salad Oliv’e). Mainly hearty, comfort food. I find it that my guests are able to enjoy themselves in a casual setting with casual food instead of serving finger foods and h’orderves.
4. Are there any foods you will not eat?
Oh yeah, any type of shell fish (with an exception of shrimp) which includes oysters, mussels, clams, you get the point. I am not really into those “slimy” type of foods. Oh and I absolutely hate olives!
5. Who is your favorite TV chef?
Rachael Ray!!! Love her. She is down to earth, genuine, and knows what she wants. Her cooking is simple and I found her to be the ONLY chef to talk about technique in the kitchen and explain why she does the things that she does while she cooks. It’s really helpful for a newbie cook, for sure. For example, I remember the first time I watched her show “30 Minute Meals”, and she said “To get most juice out of a lemon, pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds”. I thought, wow, that’s a neat trick. Now when I watch her shows I can be a stand-in for her, I can recite of all the techniques 🙂
6. What famous person/people would you love to dine with (dead or alive)?
The cast of Friends. They are hilarious and I still watch Friends re-runs everyday. The show never gets old and I never stop laughing. I think that if we got together for dinner it would be a fun-filled evening with all the food and laughter.
7. Was your favorite meal ever eaten at a restaurant or someone’s home? Tell us about it.
I can’t think of any one place, I have many. As far as the favorite meal at restaurants, I would have to say Fettuccine Alfredo Pasta with Chicken at Olive Garden, Thai Fried Rice at Thai Spice, and White Pizza at California Pizza Kitchen. But the most, MOST favorite meal is always at my mom’s house, she makes the best dessert!
8. What dish are you still trying to master?
All desserts, LOL.
