So last Friday I was brave enough to tackle the most easiest and most often made (by russian home cooks) recipe – Cottage Cheese. You’re probably wondering, if it’s so easy, why did you have to be brave for it? Well, my family (including aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins) has been making homemade cottage cheese at home for years. I have always been reluctant to try – I thought it was the most difficult technique to master. Friday night came and I decide to start on my journey of cottage cheese making. It was very easy to make and needless to say DELICIOUS, just like my mom’s.
Not only it’s low in fat, and rich in calcium, you can make all sorts of dishes out of it, from flour-less cheesecake, to cheese pancakes (or what we call Sirniki). Store bought cottage cheese just isn’t the same, homemade is the BEST!
How about a recipe for the cheese? 😉
There’s a Croatian/Southern Slav cheese called “kajmak”. We’ve been wanting to make that but can’t find a reliable recipe anywhere.
Sure, I can send the recipe via email to those who want it 🙂
Picture looks good. You should modify the blog entry to add the recipe.
looks impressive. do you use rennet or a natural coagulating agent?
Thanks! I use the good ol’ milk 2% and buttermilk 😉
